
Strategic Objectives
January 2026 – January 2029
Objective 1: NSEC aims to Develop Networking and Coordination for the Enhancement of National Security by:
- Expanding membership, participation, and engagement and sustaining the Network, utilising existing relationships across NSEC, SALIENT and the wider community to connect government, industry, and academia to support coordinated action on national security and resilience priorities.
- Facilitating coordinated engagement, such as working groups, briefings, and knowledge exchange activities, that align stakeholders, reduce duplication, and enable rapid, collective responses to emerging security and resilience challenges.
Objective 2: NSEC aims to Facilitate Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration
- Organising workshops, seminars, and conferences to share knowledge and best practice among stakeholders (either face-to-face or online).
- Facilitating continuous dialogue and collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry experts.
Objective 3: NSEC aims to Build a Diverse Academic Network
- Expanding the network of academics with expertise in national security and resilience.
- Expanding the network of academics that might contribute to national security and resilience from other academic domains but where plausible connections to security can be achieved.
- Providing opportunities for professional development and capacity building within the academic community.
Objective 2: NSEC aims to Facilitate Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration by:
- Organising workshops, seminars, and conferences to share knowledge and best practice among stakeholders (either face-to-face or online).
- Facilitating continuous dialogue and collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry experts.
Objective 3: NSEC aims to Build a diverse academic network by:
- Expanding the network of academics with expertise in national security and resilience.
- Expanding the network of academics that might contribute to national security and resilience from other academic domains but where plausible connections to security can be achieved.
- Providing opportunities for professional development and capacity building within the academic community.
Objective 4: NSEC aims to Drive Policy and Practice Impact by:
- Translating academic research into actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners and disseminating outputs via the network.
- Aiming to contribute towards changes to national security policies through evidence-based recommendations and expert consultations (e.g. by running roundtables with academia, industry, government etc.) and provide a repository of accessible insights and briefing notes to officials and ministers.
Objective 5: NSEC aims to Enhance Public Awareness & Engagement of National Security Issues & Importance of Resilience by:
- Raising awareness of national security issues and the importance of resilience by engaging with the community through outreach programs and public lectures.
