About Us

Our History:

2014: The network was first established at Imperial College, under the name Academic RISC.

2019: Cranfield University volunteered to chair and run the network.

2023: The network introduced two co-chairs, Professor Fiona Strens (Lincoln University) and Professor Tim Watson (Loughborough University).

2024: Academic RISC was renamed and rebranded as NSEC, with a dedicated Project Manager onboarded based at Joint Security and Resilience CentreĀ (JSaRC).

2025: NSEC moved from JSaRC to the Building a Secure and Resilient World: Research and Coordination Hub (SALIENT), funded by UKRI. NSEC retains a government sponsor in Annette Southgate who leads the Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE).
